2% Accommodations Tax

 

 

* Year-to-date figures for June 2009 - January 2010 for 2% Accommodations Tax Revenue: Newberry County up 13.5%; Richland County down 2.7%;  Lexington County down 19.9%

 

May 2009 versus May 2008

  • Richland, Lexington and Newberry counites had seen increases in their 2% accommodation tax receipts each and every from 2004-2008 before declining in 2009.  Saluda County still showed growth.
  • Statewide, Accommodations Tax collections fell 7.7%.  Hotel room revenue fell 8.8%, while hotel room demand fell 7.2%
  • Leisure & Hospitality employment experienced a 6.7% decline while private sector employment overall declined 5.2%
  • Air passenger deplanements fell 10.4%, following a 9.3% increase in FY2007-08

Thirteen (13) counties have over 1,000 direct tourism jobs from domestic travel in 2008:
