Crystal Pools
Alison Felschow
"Necessity is the Mother of Invention" is a quote heard many times. This expression describes the birth of Crystal Pools. In 1973, Veterinarian, Dr. Jon Meincke and his family moved to Columbia in spite of protests from his children. The children were most unhappy to leave their prized in ground, Shotcrete pool at their New Jersey home.
Dr. Meincke promised his children he would have an even better pool built for them when they moved into their South Carolina home. However, the family soon discovered there were few Shotcrete pools in South Carolina and even fewer that could begin to offer the equality and beauty of the one left behind. Building the perfect pool for the children was a necessity to keep everyone happy, so Jon Meincke set about to deliver his promise.
So, a promise once made
became a necessity to keep a family happy—
and a new career began.
Anthony Pools, the largest pool builder in the world at that time, had designed the pool in New Jersey. Dr. Meincke was allowed to purchase their proprietary filter, heater, pump and cleaning system. In order to do this, he had to become an Anthony Equipment Dealer. So, a promise once made became a necessity to keep a family happy—and a new career began.

Crystal Pools has grown to become a full service residential and commercial design and build firm for waterscapes. A waterscape can be a simple garden fountain or a large project of pools, koi ponds or waterfalls. Crystal's designs consider the functionally and architectural continuity of the project with the end result being an aesthetically pleasing waterscape.

Alison Felschow, the Meincke's daughter, and her husband, Dean are now partners in the Crystal Pools business begun by a father's promise. "We are a design-based company", stressed Alison. "We take time on the front end of the project to ensure we have captured the lifestyle of the client from the interior to the exterior."
"Our clients spend 70% of their time relaxing around the waterscape; the design should transfer a sense of relaxation. It is after all an extension of your home," states Alison. "By bringing architectural aspects from around the world, Crystal transforms the waterscape to become the focus of the estate's design."
Crystal Pools takes great pride in their superior technology dedicated to safety, efficiency and low maintenance. Crystal has five patents related to circulatory systems in swimming pools with several international patents pending. This type of innovation and leadership in engineering and construction excellence has afforded Crystal to work on many noteworthy projects such as the Frank Lloyd Wright swimming pool for the Auldbrass Plantation in Yemassee, South Carolina.
Since 1973 Crystal Pools has grown from building their own family pool to becoming a nationally recognized waterscape firm by maintaining the Meincke' s family commitment to passionately pursue excellence.
