  1. Set your thermostat at 68˚F or lower in the winter and 78˚F or higher in the summer. Each degree higher or lower can significantly increase your heating costs in winter and cooling costs in summer. Also, consider having your central heating and cooling system serviced annually by a professional. This can extend the life of the system while maintaining optimum efficiency.
  2. Consider natural gas appliances such as a tankless water heater. Natural gas water heaters can save you up to 25% annually on your water heating expenses.  And SCE&G offers a $300 rebate too.  Visit sceg.com/value for more information.
  3. Set your water heater temperature to 120˚F. Also, consider adding a water heater tank insulation wrap if the unit is more than 5-8 years old.
  4. Upgrade your attic insulation to a minimum of R-38 (12-14 inches), which can help save on heating and cooling costs.
  5. Caulk, seal and weather-strip around all seams, cracks and openings to protect against drafts. Pay special attention to windows and exterior doors.
