Ed Sellers named Greater Columbia Chamber’s 2010 Ambassador of the Year

COLUMBIA, SC - August 10, 2010 - M. Edward "Ed" Sellers, former Chairman and CEO of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, has been selected as the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce 2010 Ambassador of the Year.
Sellers will be honored at Chamber's Annual Gala and Silent Auction on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
The Ambassador of the Year is defined as someone who exemplifies outstanding business ethics and who has taken responsibility for influencing the positive promotion and preservation of the Greater Columbia area. The title is conferred annually on a leader who serves as a role model for business involvement in the community and who has contributed to the image of the Greater Columbia area. Previous Ambassadors of the Year include Dr. Andrew Sorensen, Cathy Novinger and Jim Apple.
Within the Greater Columbia community, Sellers is highly respected for his leadership, corporate responsibility and public service. Sellers recently retired as Chairman and CEO of BlueCross BlueShield after 32 years. Colleague and friend Cathy Novinger said, "Serving on numerous boards and commissions with Ed, I have seen first-hand his dedication to improving the quality of life in the Columbia area and our state. He has dedicated his education, experience, business knowledge, and work ethic to that goal since arriving in South Carolina. Our community is better because of his commitment."
Sellers currently serves as chairman of New Carolina, S.C.'s Council on Competitiveness, which he helped found.
