COLUMBIA, SC - December 12, 2011 - Local entrepreneur Ken Carey invited me on a trip a couple of weeks ago for a tour of Salley and Pelion, South Carolina to visit a T-shirt factory and a farm where in late November they were still picking fresh collards and broccoli.
Ken is the son of a son of a share cropper. He cropped tobacco and worked on farms when his dad was stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georigia. His dad retired from the Air Force when he was in the seventh grade and moved out to Pelion, SC where they grew some row crops to eat and sell at the Farmers Market and the Barn Yard Flee Market.
Ken developed BuyCertifiedSC.com to increase consumer loyalty by giving people opportunities to buy, wear and otherwise support Certified SC Grown.
