Construction Waste Management: Finding the Silver Lining
Construction waste management is often viewed as a headache, but done well, can actually save money for builders. A good waste management plan will also prevent violations and limit environmental impacts.
A half-day workshop scheduled for August 27 at USC's Green Quad Learning Center will offer case studies and lessons learned. It will also highlight creative waste management and recycling/reuse services offered in the state. The workshop will be useful to contractors, construction managers, building designers, local government officials and those with an interest in waste management services.
The program will conclude with lunch and a keynote presentation by Michael Koman, Sustainability Director at USC. Koman has been involved in most of USC's LEED projects, beginning with the construction of West Quad in the early part of this decade, continuing with recent projects such as the Honors College and planning for the new net-zero Darla Moore School of Business.
Four hours of AIA continuing education credits and LEED credential maintenance credits have been requested. Certificates will be available for anyone needing to document engineering Professional Development Hours. Individuals who attend only the luncheon portion of the meeting will receive 1 hour of AIA or engineering continuing education credit.
