NEWBERRY, SC - March 1, 2010 - The Sankofa Traveling African American Museum will be at Newberry College on Monday, March 1, 2010 from 10:00 to 3:00 in the Presidential Dining Room.

The museum is the creation of Angela Jennings as an educational exhibit about African American history.  “The Sankofa,” she says, “is a mythical African bird whose head is always turned backwards.”  The message is “Use the wisdom of the past to build the future.”

Jennings, from Denmark, South Carolina, has traveled extensively to amass art, collectibles, and memorabilia that chronicle the history and contributions African Americans have made to this country and around the world.  She guides visitors around her displays, tells stories, and answers questions.  Since 1997, Jennings has traveled the country with her museum on wheels.
