S.C. Experts to Address Health, Legal and Safety Issues at BlueChoice HealthPlan’s Women’s Conference

COLUMBIA, SC - February 17, 2010 -  BlueChoice® HealthPlan of South Carolina’s annual Women’s Health Conference on March 13 will tackle a variety of topics, from selecting the best hormone replacement therapy to learning about personal safety, self-defense and relaxation techniques.
 
This exciting and informative day, which in the past has drawn hundreds of attendees statewide, features presentations by local experts: doctors, pharmacists, law enforcement personnel, and health and fitness professionals. Topics cover a wide range of issues relevant to women at varying stages of life.
 
Scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, Columbia, S.C., the conference is titled A Healthy Affair: Join Us for a Day of Laughter and Learning. The agenda includes the following sessions and presenters:

  • “Know Your Numbers: Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Heart Disease,” Tim Mullenix, PharmD, Pfizer
  • “Physical Activity for Weight Management Demonstration,” Robert Barrilleaux, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina
  • “Menopause: Synthetic vs. Organic Therapies,” Lilly Filler, MD, Women’s Physician Associates
  • “Legal Issues Affecting Women,” Edna Smith-Primus, JD, Attorney, SC Legal Services
  • “Personal Safety and Self-Defense Demonstration,” Heidi Scott, MS, Lieutenant, Richland County Sheriff Department
  • “Relaxation Techniques for a New You,” Lisa Helfer, MPH, cHWC, ACC, Well Insight Coaching and Consulting   


The conference includes a continental breakfast, gift bags, and door prize drawings. Participants will also be treated to chair massages, experience relaxation techniques, and view self-defense and physical activity demonstrations.
 
“This event has attracted hundreds of participants over the years,” said Dorthea Lewis, coordinator of preventive health programs at BlueChoiceHealthPlan and planner of the conference. “Each year, our members and their guests tell us they learn so much about the latest in women’s health issues.”
