“Healthy Choices, Healthy Communities: Local Strategies for Wellness” educational event for the public

COLUMBIA, SC - United Way of the Midlands will host a Community Assembly on October 25 with keynote speaker Gillian Barclay, DDS, DrPH of the Aetna Foundation. Dr. Barclay's address will focus on health equity and the need for community collaboration to fight the health challenges that are facing South Carolina.  
After the Assembly, a panel will continue the discussion focusing on local issues. The panel will include local experts Mac Russell of the Fairfield CATCH Program, Susan Collier of Healthy SC Initiative, Julie Smithwick of PASOs and Terri Jowers from Healthy Columbia. Dr. Barclay will moderate the panel.               

Dr. Barclay is Vice President of the Aetna Foundation. In her role she leads the development, execution, and evaluation of the foundation's national grant programs and cultivates new projects within its three focus areas: reducing obesity by promoting wellness and healthy choices, improving health care equity and promoting integrated health care. She is a frequent spokesperson for the organization, at health conferences in the U.S. and around the world.  This event is open to the public and cost is $10 per person, which includes a healthy lunch.
