Homecoming 2012: The Power of One
November 1-3
COLUMBIA, SC - Columbia International University alumni from around the world will come together as one from Nov. 1-3 for Homecoming 2012 under the theme “The Power of One.” It’s a celebration of unique personalities, generations, backgrounds and cultures woven into one body. It’s also an opportunity for alumni to share stories of what is going on in their lives, and to witness the latest developments on the campus of CIU.
This will be the first CIU Homecoming featuring an intercollegiate athletic event when the CIU Rams men’s soccer team takes on Talladega College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3. CIU began fielding teams in intercollegiate athletics for the first time in its 90-year history this year.
Traditional CIU Homecoming activities include class reunions, tours of the historic Robert Mills House where CIU once held classes, and the Fifth Annual Chili Cook-Off featuring free samples of the entries.
The 2012 Alumna of the Year will be honored at a special chapel and breakfast. She is Kumiko Jean Takeuchi, a member of the CIU class of 1978. Takeuchi is a retired research scientist with Eli Lilly and Company where she served for 20 years. She was published in over 30 peer-reviewed journals, and filed over 30 U.S. patents.
Takeuchi was also involved in the identification and development of five clinical candidates at Lilly, two of which have advanced in human clinical trials as potential therapeutic drugs.
