COLUMBIA, SC - October 3, 2012 -
This year’s MED Week Awards Luncheon will feature special guest Anton Gunn, Director of External Affairs in the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Along with strategic partnering specialist, Ralph Thomas, III, Esquire, Mr. Gunn will present on this year’s theme, “Job Creation in America: Build It Here – Sell It Everywhere,” and how it applies to South Carolina’s minority entrepreneurs and business owners.

About Anton Gunn
As Director of External Affairs, Mr. Gunn serves as the principal advisor for cultivating and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders for Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius. Additionally, he represents Secretary Sebelius in direct official dealings with national, state and local external organizations.



Before serving as Director of External Affairs, Mr. Gunn served as the Regional Director in the Region IV Office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, covering South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Mr. Gunn also represented District 79 (Richland and Kershaw County) in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Elected in 2008, Mr. Gunn was the first African-American to represent his district.

In 2007, Mr. Gunn received the Consumer Health Care Advocate of the Year award from USA Families, the “voice for health care consumers.” Mr. Gunn received his Bachelor and Masters of Social Work degrees from the University of South Carolina.
