The Twitty Triplets kick off Trustus Theatre’s New “Off Off Lady Street Series”
Aug 23 – Sept. 1, 2012 at Tapp’s Fine Arts Center
Cabaret comeback marks the 20th Anniversary of popular triplet act
COLUMBIA, SC - “Melodic tunes from a professional act in a casual atmosphere” is what you’ll hear when Aynor, Monetta and Cayce - The Twitty Triplets - bring their musical melee of disco era favorites and personal stories of love gone wrong to the Fountain Room of Tapp's Arts Center, Aug, 23-25 and Aug.30, 31 and Sept. 1. Conceived by writer/producer Robbie Robertson, The Twitty Triplets return marks the unofficial kick off Trustus’ 2012-2013 season and the first show in Trustus’ new “Off Off Lady Street Series,” designed to bring theatrical performances to non-traditional spaces.
“On the eve of their 20th anniversary of providing triple threat talent to legions of fans, these lovely Triangle City natives will leave you absolutely bewildered and begging for more,” said Robbie Robertson. With only six performances for a limited crowd of 60 lucky listeners per night, The Twitty Triplets have performed at the Koger Center, Trustus Late Night, Workshop Theatre and the Columbia animal shelter. Known for their stunning choreography, incongruous set list and love of all things family, The Twitty Triplets have been described as “ear bliss in triplicate” and “a bizarre sister act that nearly crosses the line of good taste.”
Introducing the Twitty Triplets throughout their run will be a revolving list of celebrity emcees that include singer/journalist Daniel Seamans (Aug. 23), Trustus Executive Director Larry Hembree (Aug. 24), singer and actor Stanford Gardner (Aug. 25); arts supporter Debbie McDaniel (Aug. 30), celebrity chef and restaurant owner Kristian Neimi (Aug. 31) and writer/presenter Anne “The Shop Tart” Wolf Postic on Sept. 1.
Located at 1644 Main Street, The Fountain Room at Tapp’s, known to generations of hungry department store shoppers, will be transformed into an elegant nightclub where keg beer and convenience store wine will flow steady in a cash only bar. The Aug. 24 and 30 shows will also feature after party disco karaoke. Tickets for The Twitty Triplets are $15 for general seating. For reservations call Trustus Theatre at 803-254-9732.
