S.C. Bar Welcomes U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justices Scalia And Breyer To Convention

COLUMBIA, SC - January 12, 2012 - The South Carolina Bar is pleased to welcome U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justices Antonin Scalia and Stephen Breyer to its Convention being held Thursday, Jan. 19, through the morning of Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Justices Breyer and Scalia are expected to give a special presentation in a debate-style format addressing constitutional interpretation.
The presentation will take place at noon on Saturday, Jan. 21, in the Columbia Ballroom of the convention center and will be preceded by an introduction by Sen. Lindsey Graham.
S.C. Bar President Marvin Quattlebaum said, “It is a great honor to our Bar that the Justices have selected our Convention as one of the few public appearances they make. We are pleased to offer this opportunity to lawyers in South Carolina and look forward to a spirited debate.”
The annual Bar Convention is an opportunity for South Carolina lawyers to attend a variety of continuing legal education programs, network with colleagues and members of the judiciary and enhance their practices through technology demonstrations and programs and services offered by Convention vendors. Also during the Convention, the Bar’s House of Delegates will meet, and S.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal will give her State of the Judiciary address.
