Columbia Allstate Employee Receives Prestigious Honor for Outstanding Community Service
Aug 31, 2010
Courtney Lowe
COLUMBIA, SC - August 31, 2010 - Allstate is proud to announce Courtney Lowe of the Palmetto Market Claims Office in Columbia, as Allstate's Helping Hands Volunteer of the Season for the second quarter of 2010. Selected out of dozens of nominations, Lowe's outstanding community service stood out among the rest.
Lowe has participated in every single event planned by the Palmetto MCO Helping Hands Committee, an organization made up of Allstate employees who plan events to aid charities and causes in the Columbia area community. Columbia is among the group of Southeast Region Market Claims Offices that service over 50 non-profit organizations in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. During the past several months, Lowe has participated in events hosted at the Oliver Gospel Mission a homeless shelter for men in the Columbia area, craft days at the Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, and has planted flowers and did other yard work at our annual City Year Global Youth Service Day. Lowe also serves as a board member of the National Safety Council's South Carolina Chapter.
Lowe also was presented with the Volunteer of the Year Award at Sistercare, a local women's domestic violence shelter, in September 2009.
"It is quite an honor to be recognized by Allstate for my volunteer efforts," said Lowe. "Allstate has given me the opportunity to give back to the community through our Helping Hands Committee. It is very satisfying to help many charitable organizations in the Columbia area."
Once per quarter, Allstate honors one employee with The Helping Hands Volunteer of the Season Award. It is open to all of Allstate's more than 33 thousand employees who truly embody the spirit of giving back to the communities in which they live and work. This award is unique since employees cannot nominate themselves. The nomination must come from an Allstate peer familiar with their volunteer efforts.
"We want to highlight great stories of volunteer service like Lowe's", said Allstate Assistant Field Vice President John O'Donnell. "We hope this will inspire other Allstate employees to volunteer their time to help change lives for the better."
To ensure that the Helping Hands Recognition Program offers a national showcase for Allstate's top volunteers, the company has partnered with the prestigious Jefferson Awards for Public Service, one of America's leading volunteerism recognition institutions. As the winner for second quarter, Lowe received a Jefferson Awards for Public Service medallion and a $500 check from the Allstate Foundation for Fairfield Animal Rescue. Lowe will also be automatically considered for Allstate's Helping Hands Volunteer of the Year award.
