BLYTHEWOOD, SC - February 2, 2010 – Apprenticeship Carolina™, a division of the South Carolina Technical College System, is pleased to announce that Constantia Hueck Foils Blythewood Facility is sponsoring the company’s first federally-recognized apprenticeship program in North America.  The apprenticeship program for machine operators will consist of on-the job training as well as job related education.

“Innovation is one of the primary keys to success in our industry. But innovation goes beyond just product development.  We must continually look for innovative ways to invest in our resources that will ultimately benefit our customer,” said George N. Thibeault, Jr., president of Constantia Hueck Foils.  “Our machine operator apprenticeship program at the Blythewood facility will be the first of its kind in North America for our company.  It is providing us an opportunity to grow the skills of our employees and, in turn, enhancing the customer’s experience with Constantia Hueck Foils.”

An apprenticeship is a time-tested method of employee career development that combines supervised on-the-job learning and job-related education. A program “registered” with the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) shows an employer’s visible commitment to developing a high-quality workforce that meets nationally recognized training standards. Registered apprenticeship programs also enable employees to receive incremental wage increases as they demonstrate new competencies throughout the training program.  Constantia Hueck Foils’ apprenticeship program will train participants on the job for one year.

“Apprenticeship Carolina™ continues to enjoy a number of impressive accomplishments since its inception in 2007, including a 168% increase in the number of registered programs in our state as well as more than doubled the number of apprentices,” said Ann Marie Stieritz, director of Apprenticeship Carolina™. “Apprenticeship Carolina™ and the SC Technical College System are dedicated to serving the workforce development of all industries in our state as more organizations across South Carolina begin to realize the benefits of registered apprenticeships.”
