SC Chamber Honors Major General Robert E. Livingston Jr. as 2009 Sergeant William Jasper Freedom Award Winner

COLUMBIA, SC - September 25, 2009 - The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce its 2009 Sergeant William Jasper Freedom Award winner is Major General Robert E. Livingston Jr., director of the J5 Coalition Coordination Center, United States Central Command (CENTCOM). Livingston will be honored November 12 at the South Carolina Chamber’s 30th Annual Summit, South Carolina Business: Leading the Economic Evolution.
In addition to serving as a major general in the Army National Guard, Livingston is president, chief executive officer and owner of Gregory Electric Company in Columbia. He has served in the South Carolina Army National Guard since 1978.
“Major General Livingston not only serves our state as a business leader at Gregory Electric, but he also serves our country by leading brave troops and working with foreign allies,” said Otis B. Rawl Jr., president and chief executive officer of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce. “We are proud to name him the 2009 Sergeant William Jasper Freedom Award winner for his selfless service to our nation’s armed forces and his brave guidance of hundreds of military men and women.”
Sergeant William Jasper Freedom Award
Established in 1984 by the South Carolina Chamber, the Sergeant William Jasper Freedom Award, named for the Revolutionary War patriot, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the freedom of South Carolina and the nation. From May 2007 to April 2008, Livingston served as commander of the Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix (VI) in Kabul, Afghanistan, where he led 1,800 men and women from the South Carolina National Guard to train and mentor the Afghan army and national police. His current role as director of the J5 Coalition Coordination Center at CENTCOM is to maintain relationships and strategic partnerships with more than 60 nations that have banded together to provide support in Afghanistan and Iraq.
