Lynda Leventis-Wells Receives Order of the Palmetto Award

GREENVILLE, SC - August 27, 2012 - The Order of the Palmetto Award was conferred upon Lynda Leventis-Wells by Governor Nikki Haley for her service to the state of South Carolina. The award was presented to Leventis-Wells by Dr. Keith Miller at Greenville Technical College’s Convocation on August 24.
Lynda Leventis-Wells, executive director of the Carolinas Institute for Community Policing (CICP) and a trustee for Greenville County Schools, takes a passion for education and law enforcement into many activities including past president and current board member of the Crime Stoppers of Greenville, current president of Greenville Family Partnership, chairman of the South Carolina Methamphetamine Action Group, board member for Communities in Schools, past vice-chairman for Greenville Technical College Charter High School Board, past board member of the League of Women Voters, past president of the Daughters of Penelope, and past commissioner for the State Athletic Board, an appointment made by the governor.
Governor Haley announced the award in a letter to Leventis-Wells. “It would be easy to point to specific accomplishments that merit the Order of the Palmetto, but your entire life and career have been marked by a strong level of commitment to South Carolina… and your many contributions will have a lasting impact on our state for years to come,” she wrote.
As executive director of CICP since 2003, Leventis-Wells has helped the organization establish a reputation as being dedicated, dependable, ethically sound, and resourceful. CICP has trained over 50,000 law enforcement and community members, thanks to her commitment for improving public safety and trust.
The Order of the Palmetto is considered the highest civilian honor in South Carolina. It recognizes a recipient’s lifetime achievement and contributions to the state.
