Colonial Life Contributes $10,000 to Governor’s School Summer Camp Program

COLUMBIA, SC - July 12, 2012 - Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company has donated $10,000 to support the GoSciTech summer camp program offered by the South Carolina’s Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics.
The grant was used to support the popular summer residential program that attracts some of the state’s best and brightest talent. The GoSciTech camp brings together academically gifted students from throughout the Palmetto State for weeklong sessions on a variety of unique topics related to science and technology.
Kara Addy, assistant vice president for Branding and Communications at Colonial Life, says the school’s summer science and technology camp aligns with the priorities of the company’s corporate social responsibility program.
“Colonial Life enjoys investing in programs like these that enhance education and strengthen our ability to recruit, retain and develop a talented workforce,” she says. The company granted more than $700,000 to nonprofit organizations, including the South Carolina Governor’s School, in 2011 as part of its charitable giving efforts.
“The GoSciTech camp is just one example of the many programs we offer to provide challenging science, technology, engineering and math educational opportunities for students,” says Kim Bowman, CEO of the school’s foundation. “We’re able to offer this special program through the generous sponsorship of corporate partners such as Colonial Life that value our school’s commitment to education and economic development.”
