COLUMBIA, S.C., July 6, 2012 - - The University of South Carolina conferred upon Thomas E. Suggs an honorary Doctor of Business Administration degree at their annual spring commencement exercises in Columbia.

Suggs graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1971 with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and was a star quarterback for the school's Gamecock football team. After graduation, he entered banking and quickly rose through the ranks to Executive Vice President of South Carolina Federal. In 1995, Suggs acquired Columbia-based Rooney MacArthur Insurance Agency and later acquired Keenan Financial Services - changing the firm's name to KeenanSuggs. After 17 years with Suggs as president and CEO, KeenanSuggs is now among the largest independent insurance agencies in the Carolinas, with offices in Greenville, Raleigh and Columbia, and is recognized by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce as one of the Best Places to Work in the Palmetto State.

Commenting on his new doctoral degree, Suggs said, "I am extremely honored and humbled to be recognized by my alma mater, and equally proud to join the other graduates from the Class of 2012 on the stage. I treasured my time at Carolina, and truly believe my education and experiences there are the secret to the success I have enjoyed."
